The Inversion Method: Grow 1 Inch of Hair in 1 Week! Does This Really Work?

In short summary if you have not heard of the inversion method here is the deal: you massage your scalp using oil, you invert yourself (bend your head over)  for 4 minutes 3 to 4 times a week, and you are suppose to get 1 inch of hair within 7 days.  This method is not recommended for women who are pregnant or have any medical conditions.

There are tons of women that say that this method has worked for them, but I am quite skeptical, here is why:

  • How do you know it’s not related to just giving your hair exceptionally good care? I am mean you are obviously putting a lot of focus on it right?
  • What if this particular week your hair had a growth spurt?
  • Are the results able to be reproduced continuously?
  • Is it really healthy to have all this blood rushing to your head every week?

So in Part I of Alma’s test it looks as though the Inversion Method had some credibility. She went from 17 inches of hair to almost 18 inches of hair in a week. However, she noted something that was very important to consider: what if you do not accurately measure your hair the first time and your comparison measurement is off? It’s quite easy to forget the position that you had your measuring tape in  or you could simply be measuring your hair wrong all together.

In part II she has barely no change, which means the results seem to be unable to reproduced at least in this case. In order for a method to have substance it has to be able to repeatedly show results. Also any amount of variables can affect how fast or how slow our hair grows, which is why I am quite skeptical of this.

Any ladies who have tried this method, what are your thoughts? If you haven’t tried it would you do this?

  1. I tried this method unknowingly when I was relaxed – months before I started transitioning. Although, my purpose was healthy hair not hair growth. When I tried this, I had braids. So, every night, I would spray my scalp with green tea and 1-2 times a week I sprayed African Royale braid sheen on my hair and scalp. After I sprayed my scalp, I would massage it for 1-3 minutes to calm down any itching. I kept those braids in for about 3 months. When I went to get my last relaxer before I transitioned 2-3 months later, I was told by my sister (she was with me) that I had hair growth about 3-4 inches past my shoulders.

My hair has always been shoulder length. That’s about the only time I had long hair while I was relaxed. Of course, the hairdresser got scissor happy and when I left instead of my hair being shoulder length due to split ends, it was chin length. She also burned my sister. It was this experience about 5 years ago that gave me the idea to stop getting relaxers. I had never liked them to begin with especially the burning feeling on your scalp. It was just something I was supposed to do.

    CONCLUSION:
I think the inversion method can be used to increase the speed of hair growth on a monthly basis to about .5 – 1 inch at most, but an inch of growth in a week sounds like straight up folklore and fairytales. Besides, my increased hair growth could have easily been attributed to my daily intake of green tea, daily intake of a half dose of multivitamins, increased intake of fruits and veggies, and my overall attempt to eat healthier and build up my immunity (I used to get sick a lot as a kid and missed days of school; I couldn’t afford that in college). So, the inversion method probably works best as an addition to a routine focused on healthy hair and hair growth.

Excuse the long comment. Just wanted to explain the reason behind my opinion.

  2. I just tried the Inversion method on my and my daughter’s hair. I am transitioning and she has never had a relaxer. I can say that in 7 days we both grew 1 inch of hair. I measured from 5 different spots marked with hair chalk. I was skeptical too at first, but it actually did work. I wonder if I can reproduce these results next month….I’m just glad the scab hair is growing out faster now.

  3. I was skeptical of an inch in a week as well, but there are numerous women on YouTube who have shown their growth with this method. JourneytoWaistLength(?) achieved almost 4 inches in 4 months! You should check it out. I’m giving it a try now. I’m on Day 4 and my scalp is tingling 🙂 Hopefully, that’s a good sign!

  4. I had researched this and every post i saw said that it worked. So i decided to try it. AMAZING!!! My hair started at 20″ and on the 8th day it was 21″.

  5. I gave the inversion method a try , but O seen no growth. After becoming frustrated with the results , I dove back into more research and wondered why it did not work with me , and I have came across what I was doing wrong. 1)Do not use any combs, brushes, etc. And do noy detangle your hair within the week process. 2) Comb and braid one small section that you want to measure on the last day to get definite results 3)Do not just rub your fingers on your scalp and call that scalp massaging , you have ro get deep into the tissue of your scalp and move your forearms, and allow your head to move through the power of your fingers. This should definitely show great results. Happy healthy hair journey.

  6. I tried it once but not sure if I saw any difference. I’m pretty sure I didn’t or I never would have stopped. I might need to take heed to Meech’s comment above for better results.
