High porosity hair absorbs moisture no problem, the issue is it just comes right back out! Using these products you can keep the moisture you work so hard to put into your hair.
Protein Treatments
The cuticle is lifted high and there are gaps where moisture can easily escape. Protein treatments fill in those gaps making it easier for you to retain moisture for a longer period of time.
Heavy Oils
Oils that are heavy will help give you that protective barrier you need to effectively seal moisture in and prevent it from escaping. Some good oils to try: Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and Avocado Oil.
Rich Emollients
Shea Butter is some awesome stuff! I love it even though my hair happens to be low porosity. However, it is especially great for high porosity naturals because its richness is good for locking moisture in and it is filled with nutrients. We offer Whipped Shea which is easier to apply and manipulate than Shea in its raw form.
Balance your pH
Aloe vera gel may help to adjust your hair’s pH balance so the cuticle will lay more flat and not release as much moisture. A rinse with apple cider vinegar diluted in water is also worth a try.
These product suggestions and tips will help prevent your hair from losing moisture so quickly. If you are tired of moisture effortlessly escaping you make these changes to your regimen.
Hi !
I also have a problem with high porosity. I don’t know these products. Now, I use another brand that is good for me! thank you for your advice 😉
I experienced A LOT of growth and maintained length when I started using Ultra Black Hair (UBH) products. That line is a best kept secret! The conditioner tingles my scalp, the leave in spray keeps my hair soft (which is a miracle!) and the moisturizer doesnt leave build up. As a type 3 high porosity head, I will always keep those products as a main staple. I started off my hair journey at shoulder length and now am bra strap length.
The best part is that the line is created by a black woman with short hair (think Halle Berry) who educated herself on her hair and later using her products achieved and maintained just beyond bra strap length hair.
Check her out!
I have had more success with achieving and maintaining length with UBH than I have had with the Shea Moisture brand.
