The Benefits of Castor Oil

Let’s talk about one of my favorite oils, castor oil
!

castor oil
This oil is enriched with benefits-especially vitamin E which is important for healthy hair growth. Although this oil has a plethora of benefits, it is sometime difficult to love and use because of it’s strong scent and thickness.

 How to use castor oil

  • Use oil moderately: Castor oil is extremely thick. Thick products can at times work against natural hair. You’ll end up with excessively oily and sticky hair. “Less is more.”
  • Oil is used for sealing in moisture and not for moisturizing hair. Before using castor oil, make sure your hair is moisturized. Perhaps use a spray bottle to apply some water to hair prior to applying castor oil.

What should I do about the scent?

  • In addition to using castor oil moderately, you can also mix this oil with another oil. Any scented oil will work perfectly with castor oil and there is no harm in mixing emollients!

What can I do about the thick consistency?

  • This oil is very thick! So thick that even after co-washing hair, there will be remnants of the oil. When I first started using castor oil, I would simply apply it to my edges, because I disliked the way the oil weighed down my hair. Now, I apply the oil to my entire head after co-washing, then I rinse! (Do not shampoo) Weird method, but it works perfectly for me. I get the benefits of the oil without the mess.

Benefits of castor oil

  • Promotes Growth
  • Treats and prevents thinning and hair loss
  • Great for skin too!
  • Prevents dry scalp

Do you prefer Jamaican Black Castor oil or clear castor oil?

  1. I prefer the black caster oil. Love it. I use it by itself or i throw few drops of rosemary. U can use tea tree with it i think. I dont have any fragrance oils need to get some. Either way, love black caster oil.

  2. I literally use Jamaican black castor oil in my conditioner each wash and rinse with cold water. I feel like my tresses have thanked me.
